The Internet Treasures
Internet access allows us to be connected to the rest of the world. During my leisure, I enjoy surfing the Internet, looking for the works of some unknown artists around the world and sharing with my family and friends. The Internet art adventure inspires me with endless possibilities and artists’ creativity, and enriches my busy life even at home.
Paper folding is what we all learnt in childhood. Most of us once folded and flew a paper plane, and wished it to fly higher and longer than the others’. The artworks of German artist Simon Schubert seem to have been created with pencil but they are actually unique paper creases. He created his incredible collection only by folding pieces of paper into room interiors such as stairs, corridors, doors and windows and exteriors of buildings. I guess they should have involved some complex and splendid designs and repeated practices. Schubert is so skilful that the shadows and lights look really natural. The creases are at their right place on a white paper and lead to a 3D effect. His great works bring us closer to the true meaning of creativity.
If paper craft is what we must learn as children, graffiti is part of the pop culture we may not get involved as adults. We all know painting or marking images and letters on a lamppost or a wall in the street is punishable by law. Welsh artist Michael Bosanko got the inspiration and discovered the technique of light graffiti while holidaying in Greece. He spent five years in refining his technique and developing it into a stunning street art which is totally legal! He uses colored torches as painters’ paintbrushes to “draw” his imaginations and employs a long exposure against a backdrop of darkness in the light and has captured his light graffiti works in London, Newcastle, Edinburgh and more. His innovative graffiti represents an integration of street art and the surrounding environment, bringing vitality to Britain’s most famous attractions.
Creativity sometimes comes in the blink of an eye. Yet I believe more of it comes from our own efforts. If we keep our eyes open to observe the tiny things in our daily life and have an open mind, we will be able to make good use of the simplest materials to create innovative artworks step by step. Eventually, creativity will be boosted and art will be embedded in our life.
The Year of the Ox will soon become history and the Year of the Tiger will soon be upon us. Here I wish all of you good health and good fortune in the New Year ahead!
